Abstract

Jamboard can serve as a collaborative tool to learn English writing. This research aims to describe the use of Jamboard as a collaboration tool in English writing, the teacher’s challenges, and students’ perceptions regarding the use of Jamboard. The data were collected from one tenth-grade class, two English teachers, and three students at MAN 1 Lamongan through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis. The results suggest that using Jamboard can help students’ learning activities starting from the pre, while and post of learning activities. Jamboard also helps students in English writing processes and the development of the written products. Jamboard makes students more active and makes learning more fun. There challenges teachers face include the slow internet connections, managing students in class when using Jamboard, and time management. Some students also feel such challenges, but for the most part, they are comfortable and feel the benefits of using Jamboard as a collaborative tool in English writing. These findings show that Jamboard helps students practice and develop their English writing skills, as well as increasing student enthusiasm in the learning process. Jamboard also facilitates the ability to collaborate with friends and teachers, supporting and helping students create active and creative learning. Jamboard can provide benefits for students in writing English. Including learning becomes more interactive, students become active, and it is easier for students to collaborate in writing English. The response teachers and students gave to the Jamboard application was very good and almost all of them agreed with using this tool in learning English. Considering that Jamboard will be closed by Google this year, the researcher recommends for future researchers to use other applications as tools for collaborative writing.
