An Analysis of language style in Inside Out 2 Movie (2024)

The researcher aims to identify the types of language styles used by the characters in the movie Inside Out 2 and the factors that influence their language choices. The movie tells the story or Riley Andersen, who is now 13 years old, facing her emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Disgust, and new emotions such as Anxiety, Envy, Embarassment, and Ennui. In this study, the researcher will answer the formulation of the problem in the study, namely (1) What types of language style used in Inside Out 2 Movie (2024) (2) What factors influenced the characters used language style in Inside Out 2 movie (2024). This study uses a qualitative approach to obtain a clear and systematic description of the research being studied. Descriptive studies in textual analysis are applied in this study to analyze the conversation of the characters in the movie. Data were collected by the author recording conversations while watching the movie to record the conversations of the characters in the movie. Then analyzed by identifying the appropriate types of language style. The analysis is continued by identifying the influencing factors applied by the characters in the movie. Finally, the reasons why certain are used by the actors are identified by looking at the participants, setting, topic, and function. The results of the study shows that the movie Inside Out 2 displays various language styles used by it’s characters. The researcher identified that the language styles applied include formal, consultative, casual, intimate, and frozen styles. In addition, factors that influence the choice of language style are also found to play a significant role in the interaction between characters. Through dialogue analysis, researcher can understand how language style reflects the social context in daily communciation. This study provides insight into how the use of language style can affect social relationships and interactions in the movie.
