Abstract
This paper will elaborate the social dimensions of religious behavior among Muhammadiyah, NU, Perti and the Order of Naqsyabandiah in Rao frontier of West Sumatra. The researcher reveals how the social dimension tussle of religious ideas can shape the identity construction which is the pattern of synthesis to traditionalists and modernists identity in Rao. Nowadays, identity can be explored, negotiated and changed dynamically in the process of social dynamics. Whereas, the study of anthropology previously understood that identity can not be changed, personally and fixed. Construction of Islamic identity in frontier is a formation synthesis of religious identity. This construction can be realized as the new identity of religious disagreement that are built enthusiasmly by the community groups that uphold unity and want to escape from the shackles of stigma and imaging time. They form a new religion identity as a form of the construction of the religious identity in a pluralist frontier, accommdative and away from conflict and strife.
