Miranda’s experience of loss in Natalie Tan’s book of luck and fortune by Roselle Lim

This study aims to describe Miranda's experience of losing her loved ones and to describe Miranda's actions that are influenced by the experience of loss in Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune Novel by Roselle Lim. There are two problems discussed in this study: (1) How does Miranda’s experience of losing a loved one in Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune Novel by Roselle Lim? (2) How is Miranda’s action influenced by her experience of losing loved ones in Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune Novel by Roselle Lim? In this study, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the research results. The researchers used Husserl's theory of phenomenology and Jacques Derrida's deconstruction. The researchers used two types of data: primary and secondary. They used primary data taken from Natalie Tan's novel Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim. Furthermore, the researcher used secondary data from library research and online sources to get more data for the analysis. The first findings of this study found several of Miranda's loss experiences and emotional responses. Miranda loss her mother because her mother was busy working at a restaurant and when her mother died due to an accident, loss her husband because her husband auditioned for an international traveling symphony and due to an accident, loss her child because her child went to culinary school. The emotional response from Miranda to the experience of losing her loved ones is sadness, disbelief, anxiety, fear or anxiety, avoiding agoraphobia situations, self-blaming, and guilt. The second findings of this study found several of Miranda’s actions of her experience loss. Miranda allows her daughter to become a chef, allows her daughter to reopen her mother's restaurant, and Miranda’s take action to end her life by suddenly be able leave her apartment. Miranda decides leave her daughter, Natalie, rather than loss loved ones again.
