Abstract
Technology has an important role in the English learning process. One of them is to attract students’ engagement and understanding through learning media such as Video. There are specific features and elements that can contribute to the students in learning through the use of video in class. This is the focus of the current study which investigated the students’ engagement when the teachers use videos in their practices and the specific features and elements of videos that contribute to students’ engagement in learning English. To answer this issue, this research was a qualitative method by interviewing the teacher and students as well as observing the class. This study shows that the use of videos as a media for English learning influences their learning. Using videos could foster high levels of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral engagement among students. Many students actively participate in the discussions, ask questions, and display enthusiasm. Videos also contribute to students’ classroom engagement and cater to diverse preferences in class. The English teacher enhances engagement by carefully selecting videos based on the features and elements; visual appeal, audio quality, and duration. Animated videos, in particular, help address various learning styles.
