Conventional and conversational implicature of the main character in the Movie Wreck-It Ralph 2012

This research examines the types of implicatures by the main character in the Wreck-It Ralph. There are several research questions studied including: (1) What are the types of Implicature found on the Wreck-it Ralph movie committed by the main character? (2) What feelings are depicted in the implicatures made by the main character in the Wreck-it Ralph movie? The researcher used a descriptive qualitative approach method. A descriptive qualitative approach using Grice’s conventional and conversational implicature theory to obtain appropriate data speech analysis. These utterances were taken from the transcription of the Wreck-it Ralph movie which has been carefully examined to obtain the proper data needed. The result of this study showed two types of implicature contained in speech. With the amount of data obtained is twenty eight. In detail, thirteen utterances contain conventional implicatures and fifteen utterances contain conversational implicatures uttered by the main character. Based on data analysis, the most dominant is conventional implicature followed by particularized conversational implicature, and after that is generalized conversational implicature. Because of the large use of implicatures committed by the main character, the real meaning of the words he says does not reach the person he is talking to, which makes it difficult for people to understand him.
