Abstract

Social media addiction is a condition where the use of social media becomes uncontrolled and tends to be forceful. The ability to self-regulate plays an important role in managing their use of social media more effectively, so as to reduce the negative impact of addiction on subjective well-being. This research aims to determine the influence of self-regulation and subjective well-being on Instagram social media addiction. The research subjects were 6-8 semester students at universities in Surabaya who actively used Instagram. In this research, the subjects used were 272 respondents. This research uses a correlational quantitative method using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. There are four instruments used, namely the Instagram Addiction Scale (TIAS), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SwLS), and the self-regulation scale which refers to the aspects expressed by Brown and Miller. The research results show that there is a significant influence of self-regulation and subjective well-being on Instagram social media addiction
