Abstract

The film Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a film adaptation of the cartoon Dora the Explorer. The film, which of course has a longer duration than the cartoon version, shows details that are not used in the cartoon, such as a more detailed storyline and the expressions of each character. This research aims to reveal the various expressions used by the main character Dora in the film Dora and the Lost City of Gold. So, this research focuses on 2 two problem formulations (1) What types of expressive speech acts does Dora use in the film 'Dora and the lost city of gold'? (2) why does Dora use expressive actions in her speech? In analyzing this research data, researchers used qualitative descriptive methods. To collect data, researchers carried out transcripts and double-checked whether they matched each utterance in the film which was then sorted based on expressiveness according to Searly's (1969) theory. In this research, 11 types were found used by Dora in Dora and the Lost City of Gold with a total of 44 data found, here are the divisions: Thanking 5 data, apologizing 7 data, complaining 4 data, congratulating 3 data, lamenting 5 data, complimenting 7 data, praise 1 datum, 6 data for greeting, 3 data for welcoming, 3 data for blaming, and finally forgiveness, only 1 datum was found. Based on the expressive types mentioned above, there are 13 functions in it, namely gratitude, regret, evaluation, complaint, pleasure, doubting, fear, criticizing, insinuating, disbelief, praise and friendly.
