Abstract

This study aims to unveil the non-cooperation communication of the main characters in the film "Gone Girl", using H.P. Grice's (1975) theory as a foundational framework. "Gone Girl", a psychological thriller, intricately explores themes of deception, marriage, and media influence through the complex relationship between its protagonists, Nick and Amy Dunne. The flouting of the maxim of quality emerges as the most frequently used strategy by the characters, aligning with the film's thematic emphasis on deception. The main characters in Gone Girl movie flout the maxims for their own personal benefits. This results in a complex and intricate plot or storyline, and hinders each other in the investigation of Amy’s disappearance.
