THEME AND MORAL VALUE OF SCARLET LETTER’S NOVEL

This thesis entitled Theme and Moral Value Of Scarlet Letter’s Novel is focusing on the analysis of theme in novel, and Hester’s punishment based Puritan and Islam law. From those relationships the writer finds out with formalism theory, and review the puritan punishment and Islamic law.In her analysis the writer uses the background literature about the life of puritan people, since the main character is a puritan woman. Besides the formalism theory, the puritan and Islamic law also to use. The writer analyzes the Hester’s punishment based of puritan and Islamic law. After that,The analysis discusses the formalism theory in Hester’s punishment dealing with the relationship between Hester and her lover. The puritan tradition and the society where she lives in. eventually, Hester shows that the struggle for her equality, independence and freedom which are seen from her strength responsibility, and independence as a lover, a wife, an adulterous and a single parent in facing difficult situation, depending on her thought and her will and making a decision, prove that Hester is a forerunner of formalism.
