Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implications of the conversation delivered by Thomas Tuchel during his first press conference as Chelsea manager. In this research, researchers analyzed conversational implicatures using Grice's theory to classify types of conversational implicatures, namely; generalized conversational implicature and particularized conversational implicature. The researcher used qualitative descriptive methods. The aim is to answer the problem formulation regarding the types of conversational implicatures and the function of conversational implicatures that occurred in Thomas Tuchel's press conference. From the result of this research, the researcher found 32 data which contain conversational implicature. The researcher finds two types of conversational implicature, namely generalized conversational implicature and particularized conversational implicature. Generalized conversational implicatures were most frequently used by Thomas Tuchel with 20 data out of 32 data. There are also 5 functions of conversational implicature, namely representative, directive, commissive, expressive and declarative.
