Abstract
This thesis attempts to analyze a powerful novel written by a Germany author, Hermann Hesse’s under the titled Siddhartha. The novel tells about the spiritual journey of a man, with his freedoms and choices is brave to leave all his precious life including his parents, friends and someone who loved just for finding his self-identity. This thesis focuses on analyzing Siddhartha as the main character and his self-discovery process. Dealing with the focus of the study above, this study uses new criticism theory as the basic data to lead the further analysis by using existentialism theory to depict Siddhartha’s self-discovery process. By choosing Soren Kierkegaard’s existentialism theory, it will be explain more deeply the phases faced by Siddhartha until he found his goal.
