Abstract
This thesis presents positive politeness strategy By Stephen and Jane in ‘The Theory of Everything’ movie. Furthermore, the writer has two research problems. Those are, What the politeness strategies used by Stephen and Jane as the main character and What factors influence the characters to apply those strategies in “The Theory of Everything” movie
Based on the explanation above, this research focuses on thekindtypes of Positive politeness strategy used by Stephen and Jane in The Theory of Everythingmovie and what factors influence to apply those strategies in The Theory of Everythingmovie. The writer uses Brown and Levinson (1975) to analyze types of positive politeness strategy.. To supporting this research of violation of maxim used in Vampires Suck movie, the writer uses the qualitative methods.
The results of this study are finds out the types of positive politeness which are used. Based on the data that have been analyzed, the researcher finds eleven types of positive politeness,The politeness strategies are notice attend to hearer, Exaggerate, intensify interest to hearer, seek agreement, avoid disagreement, offer or promise, be optimistic, include both speaker and hearer in activity, assume or assert, give gift to the hearer .The most dominant of type of positive politeness that is used by the characters in this novel is strategy 5namely is seek agreement.
