A Polysemy analysis of song lyrics in the Albums Of 'Thank You Allah' and 'Forgive Me' By Maher Zain

This thesis examines semantic studies that focus on polysemy in Maher Zain’s two albums, ‘Thank You Allah’ and ‘Forgive Me’. This study aims to describe the use of polysemy in both Maher Zain’s albums. In this study, the use of polysemy is described based on the type of polysemy, namely: polysemy verb, polysemy noun, and polysemy adjective.
This research is qualitative research. In this study, the data used are words that contain polysemic meaning. The data source of this research are the song lyrics on Maher Zain’s two albums namely, ‘Thank You Allah’ and ‘Forgive Me’. Data collection done by reading and note-taking techniques. The research instrument used was a human instrument, assisted with the data card. Data were analyzed by classifying into the polysemic word table found. The data itself is obtained through the internet. The results obtained in this study are described based on the type of polysemy which consists of three parts, namely (1) polysemy verb which consists of tweleve data. the form of polysemy found is eight data action verbs, three data state verbs, and one data process verb. (2) A polysemy noun consists of six data. The form of polysemy found is six data basic nouns, and (3) polysemy adjectives consists of eight data. The form of polysemy found is eight data basic adjectives. The total amount of song lyric data that has been analyzed and contains polysemic meaning is twenty six data. So in this research, it can be concluded that lyrics of the song used many polysemy verbs in the form of action verbs.
