Abstract

In Outline, our focuses are: (1) what is the subject on Muhammad in his Muhammad Prophet and Statesman (2) what is the source in his Muhammad Prophet and Statesman? (3) what is Montgomery Watt’s view on Muhammad in his Muhammad Prophet and Statesman? This study uses descriptive method of analysis That describing the material history of life of the Prophet Muhammad contained in the book Muhammad Prophet and Statesman. Then describing the sources used by Montgomery Watt. Both primary and secondary sources. Then analysis is the analysis of Watt's view of Muhammad as a prophet and statesman. This study uses the sociological approach of Karl Manheim's knowledge. The results of this study show Montgomery Watt (1909-2006) trying to be objective. He holds that Muhammad was a man of "creative imagination" and he was neither a prophet nor a statesman but merely a "social reformer" as Baron Von Hugel and Adolf Hitler. Although he had influenced by the "biases" of Western thought and his predecessor such as Bell, and Margoliouth, also seen from his background as a monk and as a scholar in the era of "interfaith dialogue" and religious studies develop.
