Teaching speaking through retelling story for student of year eight at SMPN I Sedati Sidoarjo

This study focused on teaching speaking through retelling story for students of year eight at SMPN I Sedati Sidoarjo. The aim of this study is to describe how retelling story is implemented in teaching speaking and to describe what problem which might arise in teaching speaking for studenys of year eight at SMPN I Sedati Sidoarjo. The researcher used descriptive study in which the main procedure followed the occuring phenomena naturally. The data of this study are comprised from the result of the observation, the questionnaire,and interview. The result of the observation shows that before applying the technique, the teacher explained the rules of this technique over and over. Moreover to make the students able to understand the story, the teacher explained some difficult words based on the story given to the students. Furthermore, the students showed their great interest to the teaching technique, since this technique is a good way to combine instruction and intertainment.
