Using discussion technique to improve the speaking skill of second grade of MAN I Bojonegoro

The subject of the study was the second grade students of science department of MAN I Bojonegoro. There are three reseach question that have to be answered: how is the implementation of discussion technique in teaching speaking, how is the students responses after the discussion technique be implemented, and how is the progress of the students speaking ability after discussion technique be implemented. This study was a collaborative classroom action research wich took two cycle contains four steps. First step is planning the action. In this stage the writer prepared the form of lesson plan, which contained formulated objectives, selected materials and organized the class.The next step was observing the action, and the last step was reflection. For the next cycle, this kind of actifity was repeated four times until the expected result was obtained. The data of this study was gotten from the result of observation checklist, notes taking, recording, questionnaire, and the assesment of the students speaking skill in every meeting. The result of the study wich can answer the research questions above. For the first question, the result was the implementation of discussion technique could motivate the students to speak in front of the class confidently. The technique could lead the students to interact and socialized with other. The students could speak freely without being afraid of making mistake. based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that discussion technique as a technique in teaching speaking which was chosen to improve the students speaking ability in MAN I Bojonegoro was successes.
