English speaking club: an alternative to improve the english speaking skill for students of English Education Department Faculty of Tarbiyah State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya

This qualitative research explores whether the English Speaking Club is able to be an alternative to improve the English speaking skill of the students of the English Education Department in the Faculty of Tarbiyah (Islamic Education) State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya. In the research, applicable information was investigated in 21 students or members of the English Speaking Club by filling out the questionnaires made by the researcher and a deep and detailed interview with the chainnan of the club was conducted. The findings suggest three areas of concern: The English Speaking Club could be an alternative to improve the English speaking skill of the students of the English Education Department. There are several strategies, in form of programs, done by the club's organizers in aims to improve its members' English speaking skill. There are several strengths and weaknesses to recognized and considered in advance.
