The effectiveness of using short note in teaching writing at SMP Negeri 1 Bangsal Mojokerto

This study investigated the effectiveness of using short note in Teaching Writing at SMP Negeri 1 Bangsal Mojokerto. This study focused on the analysis of the students' writing improvement. Quasi experimental research was used as the research design. The sample was 68 students of the eight grades at SMP Negeri 1 Bangsal Mojokerto. Class VIIl-A was chosen as the experimental class and Class Vlll-F was chosen as the control class. The class was chosen based on the teachers' recommendation. Pretest and Posttest were administered and the results were analyzed to answer the research problem. T-test formula was used to test the hypothesis. Based on the results of data analysis, the mean of the pretest result from the experimental and the control groups are 62.9 and 62.7. The mean of the posttest result from the experimental and the control groups were 79.S and 70.9. T-test formula showed 2.67 with 5% level of significance. It "'"85 higher than the t-able "''hich showed 2.00. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the mean of the improvement of the both group. It means that the Hypothesis alternative is accepted. Thus, the effectiveness of Short Note technique in Teaching Writing is proven. A replication study about Short Note Technique is suggested to strengthen the findings.
