The correlation between emotional quotient and english achievement of the first year students of MA al lbrohimi Manyar Gresik

Students' success at school is shown by a good achievement, including English lesson. One of factors which influence the students' achievement is emotional quotient. Some fundamental theories have been introduced the successful students in their life depend on their emotional intelligence. This study aims to find out whether there is a significant correlation between emotional quotient and English achievement. To achieve the purpose of this study, the research used product moment design. There were two variables investigated in the study, namely: emotional quotient and English achievement. The samples were fifty students, who were selected randomly from a population 165 of the first year students of MA-Al Ibrohimi Manyar Gresik. Meanwhile, the instruments used to collect the data were questionnaire of EQ test and Document. The questionnaire was used to obtain data of emotional quotient, while the document was used the collect the data of English score of students' respondent. They were analyzed by product moment analysis. Based on the result of computing, it was found that there is high correlation between emotional quotient and English achievement of the first year students of MA-Al ibrohimi Manyar Gresik to the amount of 0.666. If we look at the critical value of rat table at 0.05 level of significant was 0.279. It shows that the calculated rxy is higher than r table. It means that the alternative hypothesis which states: there is correlation between emotional quotient and English achievement is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected.
