The implementation of positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS) strategies in speaking class of single sex classrooms at MTs. Negeri Krian Sidoarjo

This thesis aims to find out the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) Strategies by the teacher in managing speaking class of single sex classrooms and students’ perception about the implementation of the strategies. The subject of this study is a teacher and students of MTs. Negeri Krian – Sidoarjo. This study uses qualitative descriptive method. To collect the data, the study uses classroom observation, questionnaire and documentation. In analyzing the data, the researcher writes the implementation of the strategies in clear and brief sentence in field note and uses questionnaire to find out about students’ perception about the strategies and count the result using Guttman Scale and the Theory of Perception. To check the validity of the study, the researcher uses triangulation and is helped by the teacher to confirm the data that are found during the observation. The result of the study shows that the teacher implements all the nine strategies including the aspects in each strategy, but left one aspect from the sixth strategies that is acknowledgement, which is providing token economies. The reason behind leaving that aspect is because the teacher finds it hard to provide token economies for each behavior and it will be better by just giving them complements right after the behavior occurs. In implementing the strategies, the teacher does it very well and based on the theory. For the students’ perception about the implementation of the strategies, most of the students show positive perception toward the strategies. The positive perception means that the students have positive opinion and judgment towards the strategies that is implemented by the teacher in the classroom.
