Revealing theme through main character conflicts in prodigal son novel by Danielle Steel

This thesis discusses about revealing theme through conflicts in Prodigal Son Novel. In this thesis, the writer focus on conflicts in Peter's life and theme of the novel. In this thesis the writer uses New Criticism theory to analyze the conflicts and theme. This thesis the writer uses a descriptive qualitative method , its means that the data collected are in the form of words or sentences not numerical data. The writer expected this study could help literary student to understand how to reveal theme from conflict in a story. The writer also hope this analysis could become reference for further study of literary works whatever forms they will be.The finding of this thesis is there are two types of conflicts appears in Prodigal Son that is external conflict and internal conflict.While for the theme, there are two kinds of themes; major theme and minor theme. Major theme of the novel is sibling rivalry and minor theme is money.
