Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is very important in second language learning as it significantly affects speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in the language. This study aims to explore the different types of vocabulary assessment instruments used in the context of English as a foreign language (EFL) learning in Indonesia. In addition, it also examines how teachers use these vocabulary assessment instruments in their classroom practice. This study uses a systematic literature review method with inclusion criteria of articles published in the last 14 years (2010-2024) and indexed in Scopus, Crossref, or categorized in Sinta 1, 2, 3, or 4 journals. The results show that 12 types of vocabulary assessment instruments have been developed and tested for their effectiveness in measuring students' vocabulary comprehension in Indonesia. in addition, this study explains how to use each assessment tool, so that it can be implemented effectively in learning. This research is expected to contribute theoretically in enriching research sources on vocabulary assessment instruments as well as providing practical benefits for English teachers in choosing the right assessment instruments to measure their students' vocabulary skills.
