Abstract

This study focuses on the woman inferiority in social classes and man dominated in the French society during French revolution. The explanation is spotlight on the main character struggle through her achievement in a woman right on private property in Ambition and Desire novel by Kate William. Josephine is the main woman character that faces marginalized and suffers condition by her first marriage. Thus, the condition leads her to struggles to get woman liberation on equality right between man and woman especially on private property. This study is using Marxist feminism theory to identify Josephine’s character and her characterization as the main woman character in the novel. Historical criticism also uses as approach in this research to aim to trace back the way Josephine struggles on getting her right for private property. In research uses library based and applied qualitative research as a method. The result of this study are finds that Josephine’s characterization leads her courageous to fighting for her right on private property. She is success becomes wife of Empress Napoleon and build an artistic house in Malmaison.
