Abstract

This Thesis tries to answer the following questions; Are there any significant differences between students' score who sit in the front and the back row in English achievement at the grade eight of SMPN I Plemahan Kediri. The research design of the study comparison uses quantitative research analysis. The target population of this study is the students who sit in the front and at the back row at the grade eight of SMPN I Plemahan Kediri in the 2010-2011 academic years. The researcher takes the sample among the population randomly using lottery, and class 8D and 8E are selected as the sample. The data of this research is taken from students' score who sit in the front and the back row after they get written test for four times. To test the hypothesis the t test formula is used in analyzing the respondents, seven methods are used; 1) finding means of each variable, 2) finding standard deviation, 3) finding standart error, 4) standart error of the difference, 5) finding the t-value, 6) give the interpretation toward to, and 7) test the hypothesis. The result of the calculation of t value in this research is 6,71 while the value of a significant level of 5% is 2, 04 and of 1% is 2, 75 in the table. t value in this research is higher than t value in the table. So null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and alternative hypothesis (H 1) is accepted. It means that there are significant differences between students' score who sit in the front and the back row in English achievement at the grade eight of SMPN I Plemahan Kediri. So, for English teacher, it is hoped he or she changes students' seats periodically. Thus, all students have an equal opportunity to sit in the front or other row. Besides, English teacher may change seating arrangement style if possible where seat style is accommodated with the class activity.
